The Black Crappie is misunderstood by a lot of people. They think that this Crappie is the male of species of the White Crappie. How very wrong they are, the Black Crappie is its own species and has male and female of the species. Where people get this is when the Male Crappie is in the spawning mode it gets blacker than it normally would be. The same goes for the Male of the White Crappie they both get a Rich Black color when in the spawning mode. We have put them together on the next page so you can see the difference in them both. Know your Crappie that you fish for everyday, I have heard many people talk about a black crappie when they really had a White Crappie in their hand, it was a Male and he was Black because of the spawning mode.
